So its no surprise that I love me some plum and burgundy shades for fall whether its bright and fruity or deep and rich. I love them sheer for easy wear and potently pigmented for a vampy statement. So I thought Id share some of my favorite berry and burgundy lipsticks and a few tips and tricks for application and longevity. .
On the more sheer side of the spectrum YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in nr. 19. is a beautiful juicy bright purple plum. Its super shiny, smells delicious, and its very hydrating. For a sheer lipstick its pretty pigmented and can be layered on for a really powerful and fun lip.
Benefit Hydra-Smooth Lip Color in Talk Flirty is another wearable and sheer shade. Its more mauvish-pink but it does have a subtle berry undertone. This is a great shade to try if you favor the more neutral shades. The formula is moisturizing and its so easy to apply. I have a full review here if your interested in more details 😀
On the deeper plumier side of the scale the Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick in nr. 18. is one of my faves. Its a beautiful deep burgundy plum shade that can be worn at full opacity or sheered out for a stained effect. The the texture and application is uber smooth and the longevity is amazing.
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Venom is one of my new found loves. Its a deep and rich plum with a gorgeous satin finish. The formula is amazing and it lasts for hours. I have a full review of the Revolution Lipsticks here 😀
One of my all time holy grail berry lipsticks is Mac’s Rebel. Its very similar to Venom but its pulls more burgundy then berry. This is a great vampy lip color that’s still bright. I love how its the perfect marriage of a berry and burgundy…its the best of both worlds wrapped up into a little black bullet!!! hehehe!!
Heres some side by side comparisons so you can really see all the different tones and shades.
I love the intensity and boldness of a rich, vampy lip but I also enjoy the subtleness of a more sheer fruity berry purple. But sometimes the deeper shades can a be a bit problematic, they have the tendency to feather out of the lip line, and to smudge. So here are some of my tips for applying and keeping the perfect vampy lip…
Tip 1: Line your lips with a similar color or a transparent lip liner to stop feathering.
Tip 2: Color in the lip with the lip liner for staying power and added pigmentation.
Tip 3: Use a lip brush to neatly and precisely line and fill the lips. Blot and reapply as many time as desired for longevity and minimization of smudging and feathering.
Tip 4: Use a concealer to outline the outside of the lips to clean up and create sharp lines.
Tip 5: To really create a long lasting lip take a tissue and pull apart the layers. Use one layer of tissue and hold it up to your lips, lightly dust some translucent face powder onto the tissue. This will help “set” your lipstick and lock it into place without disturbing the lipstick or changing the color .
Doing one of these tips or a combination of them all will definitely help to achieve a crisp and even application thats long wearing. Now you can feel more confident when wearing your subtle purples, rich burgundies and plums without worrying about it 😀 If you have any great lipstick tips defo leave a comment…I’m always looking for new tips and tricks!!
