So a little while ago Urban Decay came out with a new style of eye shadows called Moondusts. I absolutely love Urban Decay eye shadows, especially their shimmery shades. so pigmented, creamy and beautiful. So when I saw these in Sephora while on holiday I knew I had to pick one up. I haven’t heard too much fuss sround these so I thought I’d go ahead and review and swatch them. I picked up the shades Stargazer and Zodiac ($20- 7 shades available).
According to Urban Decay…
“Sparkly shadow goes ultra-sophisticated—with intense hues, microfine sparkle and lush, 3-D metallics. You’ve never seen a sparkly shadow this sophisticated. Moondust is dazzlingly sparkly but with a super refined, incredibly sophisticated feel (and not a single speck of chunky glitter). Microfine bits of iridescent sparkle collide with intense, dreamy hues and lush, 3-D metallics—for an effect that’s out of this world.New technology gives Moondust an amazing effect not found in traditional pressed-powder shadows. It feels like a cream but goes on like a powder to create a smooth, brilliantly reflective look. The result? Sexy, twinkling sparkle with a ton of depth and movement. (And a LOT of questions about what you’re wearing!) We recommend applying Moondust with your fingers. For extra intense color payout, try it wet.”
Here’s a closer look at these bad boys and how they perform dry and wet.
Stargazer: Super metallic gold with finely milled golden glitter. I love the color, pigmentation and the smooth texture. The color pay off when its dry (left swatch) is almost as intense when its wet (right swatch) which is a major plus. I do find it applies to the lid a little uneven when using a brush but dabbing with your finger afterward smooths and evens out the texture. The longevity is amazing with a primer of course and I experienced absolutely no fallout during wear.
Zodiac: Emerald green with reddish/brown duo chrome and silver and green glitter. This shade is absolutely gorgeous and I love the duo chrome effect especially when wet (right swatch). Yet the texture of this shade is more grainy and gritty due to the larger chunks of glitter. Even more so, this one has a lot of fall out during wear and thus little longevity. Swatched it applied uneven and on the eye lid a bit patchy.
4/5 for Stargazer. It performed beautifully; great pigmentation, texture and longevity. I’m so happy I got this shade and it will definitely be loved. Unfortunately Zodiac fell short as it was patchy and grainy, and gets a mere 3/5. I think with this type of eyeshadow its safer to go for the metallic shades and avoid the ultra chunky glittery shades.
Have you tried the other shades from the Moondust range? Leave a comment with your experience 😀
