Favorite Summer Eye Shadow Palettes

Hey guys and dolls,

So summer is sadly coming to an end soon and I thought it could be fun to show you my most used, worn, and loved eye shadow palettes from this summer…

Favorite_Summer_palettesI have to say I have a mighty eye shadow collection so using up product is definitely hard for me, especially since I try and switch it up daily so everyone can be loved equally πŸ˜€Β  But I’ve been totally gravitating towards fun pastel pinks and lavenders as well as beautiful bronzes and corals.

One of my favorite palettes (and a new one for that matter) for creating a beautiful bronzed and coral eye has got to be my Maybelline Eyestudio Quad in Coral Oasis (you can find a full review and swatches here) Its budget friendly, super pigmented and has every color you need to create a full look…what more could a girl ask for!!??

Maybelline_Eyestudio_CoralOasisQuadI also recently bought the Too Faced Summer Eyes palette…this thing is wow. Again all the colors you need to create a day or night look. Plus this bad boy is totally rockable and appropriate for those autumn days ahead of us!! (check out my full review and swatches here)

TooFaced_SummerEye_1As for my beloved pastel shades the Lime Crime D’Antoinette palette has been a huge fave of mine since before summer too. Fully pigmented matte pastel shades are really hard to come by and these fit the bill to a T!!! (review and swatches here if your interested)

LimeCrime_DAntoinette_PaletteIve also been loving the Dolce & Gabbana Eden Quad for a real ethereal summer look (full review and swatches can be found here)

Dolce&Gabbana_Eden_Quad_1Of course I have many other favorites but these have been absolute stand outs for me this summer. Whats been your favorite eyeshadow or palette for this season?

Review & Swatches: Smashbox Photo Op Eye Shadow Palette Smoke Box II

Hey Guys,

I hope your all having a lovely summer. I’m officially on summer break, just handed in my last uni paper, and now and loving every moment of summer πŸ˜€

Today I thought I’d share another Smashbox product: Photo Op Eye Shadow Palette Smoke Box II ($39 available at sephora.com or smashbox.com, unfortunately unavailable in Denmark).

Smashbox_SmokeBox_ReviewSmashbox_SmokeBox_Review_InsideThis beautiful palate comes housed in hard a sturdy matte black case. Inside there are six lovely smokey shades. The palette also comes with a double ended brush. To be honest I find these rather useless , 9 times out of 10, brushes included in eyeshadow set tend to be not of the best quality. These are OK if you lost all your brushes and your fingers didn’t work (hahaha). They are definitely nothing compared to real Smashbox brushes.

On to the swatches we go:

Smashbox_SmokeBox_Review_Alabaster

Alabaster: A off white cream shade with a matte finish. In the flash it looks like it has a satin finish but it is more on the matte side. Its super soft, buttery, highly pigmented and a really beautiful brow highlight and a great base color.

Smashbox_SmokeBox_Review_ThunderThunder: Is a slate grey with slight shimmer. This one was also highly pigmented, smooth, and easy to blend. It had a tad bit of fall out due to the shimmer particles but nothing that cant be avoided if you tap the excess off the brush.

Smashbox_SmokeBox_Review_BlackoutBlackout: Is a matte black. It isn’t the blackest of blacks and leans more toward a dark grey or slate black. Again this shade is smooth, soft, blendable and highly pigmented.

Smashbox_SmokeBox_Review_RoastRoast: Is a mid toned brown with glitter and shimmer particles. This shade had the chunkiest amount of glitter and the most fall out. Nothing huge though, and almost expected with a shade like this. Regardless though the pigmentation is phenomenal and so is the blending capabilities.

Smashbox_SmokeBox_Review_BlackCuurentBlack Current: Is a rich plumy purple with aΒ  matte finish. This is probably my favorite shade in the whole set. Its absolutely gorgeous. Its such a unique shade, im kind of in ove with it at the moment!! Its the softest and creamiest shade in the palette, blends beautifully and the pigmentation is pretty insane.

Smashbox_SmokeBox_Review_SeafoamSeafoam: Is a light champagne shade with golden undertones and a shimmer finish. It looks more silver under the flash, so depending on the lightening it can read slightly more gold or slightly more silver. Its also very smooth to the touch and I didn’t experience fall out with shade. It really is beautiful and pigmented. It really looks fab on the inner corners of the eyes ot all over the lid.

THE VERDICT:

9/10 for this beautifully put together palette. The shades all work together to create a full eye look for either day or night. All the shades are buttery smooth, highly pigmented and so easy to blend and use. There is some fall out but very minimal. As with many dark eye looks, I would suggest applying pre-foundation to avoid any disturbance to the face makeup.

It is pretty pricey almost $40 so if you have similar colors in your collection then I wouldn’t say this is a must. But the quality of these shadows are amazing and that Black Currant shade is to die for.

Here’s a look I did using most of the shades from the palette.

Smashbox_SmokeBox_Review_EyeLook

Alabaster: base shade from lid to brow.

Seafoam: on the inner corner by the tear duct.

Roast: on the lid and slightly blended in crease.

Black Currant: outer corner and into crease.

Has anyone tried this Smoke Box out? Would love to hear your experiences πŸ˜€

Whats In My Travel Make Up Bag

Hey beautiful people,

So summer is almost here and Uni is done so that means holidays and travel…whooopiiii πŸ˜€ I’m heading off tomorrow for a week to see my sister and then in mid June I will be in London for IMATS (OMG too excited for that!!!) and then off to sunny Cali to visit my parents and brother. So I thought I would share with you guys what make up I bring with me on holiday as well as how and what I pack it in. Lets just get straight in to it.

Makeup_Travel

Makeup_Travel_MUFEI pack most of my make up and skin care in the super great MUFE makeup bag. It’s really cool and holds loads of stuff. Unfortunately I don’t know if its available for purchase as I got it free at a MUFE event. Anyways here’s a little look of the inside…

Makeup_Travel_MUFE_OpenMakeup_Travel_MUFE_Compartment

It has loads of compartments. A mesh zipper area for flatter larger products and two removable plastic ‘pencil case’ type compartments. There’s also a compartment in the very front which I don’t really use for anything. Its a great bag, the removable compartments are basically waterproof and super easy to clean in case of spillage or leakage!!! Whats super cool about the plastic compartments: they’re detachable so you can choose to use all, one or none and its great for keeping everything organized.

Makeup_Travel_LargeMakeup_Travel_large_meshIn the mesh compartment I house most of the larger and fatter products like my Mac MSF in Soft and Gentle, Maybelline Fit me Powder in 125, Mini Daily Brush Cleanser from Sephora, and my Urban Decay Naked Palette.

Makeup_Travel_MUFE_makeupIn one of the plastic compartments I house most of my make up. So lip products like Too Faced Juicy Melons, Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tarte, Mac Lipglass in Betty Bright and NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss in Beige (even though its a dusty rose…but whatevs!!!) It also fits a mini Hourglass Primer, L’Oreal Lumi Primer, MUFE Brightening Concealer, Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 125, Too Faced Chocolate Soliel Bronzer, TheBalm Hot Mama Blush, MUFE HD Powder, Mac Paint Pot in Painterly, and two eyeliner pencils from MUFE in black and brown. I Think I will also pack a nude liner, perhaps my Tarte one but I haven’t decide yet πŸ˜€ I also haven’t decide on which mascara I should take or brow product…oh the difficulties of a a makeup addict!!! hahaha.

Makeup_Travel_MUFE_SkincareThe other plastic compartment houses my skin care stuff. I use a lot of mini and sample versions of products I already own. So I have a mini make up remover and toner from Sephora, my Josie Maran Argan Oil as my night ‘cream’, a mini Murad sample of there eye cream and daily moisturizer, and a mini Lancome Vissionaire as my serum. I also have my Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in 125 and my Mac Fix+ to hydrate and and set my make up πŸ˜€

Makeup_Travel_BrushesMy makeup brushes travel in the Sigma holder which doubles as a stand which is super convenient and I add a few smaller brushes in my Too Faced travel brush container. Most of my brushes are protected with Brush Guards, it helps keep there shape too!!

Makeup_Travel_HairAnd lastly I keep all my hair care in this little black Chanel pouch. Again I have mini versions of my fave hair products like my Ouidad Serum Glaze, Aveda Be Curly and a little empty container that I filled with my Ouidad hair gel. I always take a mini of my favorite perfume Flower Bomb by Victor and Rolf.

After everything is packed and sealed I throw it in my suitcase and wedge it in between clothing for extra safety.

Tips for Packing Makeup:

  • Keep samples and ask for samples of your favorite products, they are perfect for travel as they take up very little space.
  • As an alternative to sample products, buy empty containers and fill them up with your fave products.
  • To prevent powders from shattering or breaking stick a little powder poof in your powder compacts, this will help avoid any cracks.
  • Wedge your make up bags in between clothing for extra cushioning (you no how those airport guys throw your bags around!!!)
  • If your extra paranoid about your eye shadows and palettes breaking then wrap them up in a pair of ankle warmers or a fluffy sweater.
  • If you have a really nice and expensive make up bag that you don’t want to ruin (lets face it things brake and spill!!) keep things in little plastic baggies. It contains the mess and makes it easy to clean πŸ˜€
  • Protect your makeup brushes by housing them in a separate compartment and use Brush Guards for shape and extra protection.

I hope this post has been helpful. If not I hope it’s been fun πŸ˜€ I know it was for me!!!

I would love to hear your packing tips so please do leave a comment with great suggestions on how to keep your make up safe during air travel πŸ˜€
