Five Easy Ways To Get Luminous Glowing Skin

Hey Guys 😀

So glowing skin has been all the rave for the past year or so and its definitely not going out of style any time soon, especially with spring around the corner. And no wonder since luminous skin is the perfect answer to achieving that coveted Victoria Secret look. So keep reading on for my five easy ways to get that naturally lit from within glow.

1: Use a a bb cream or tinted moisturizer instead of a heavy coverage foundation. Since they tend to contain lots of hydrating ingredients its an easy and full proof way of quickly achieving naturally glowing skin. The Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream and the Bobbi Brown BB Cream are some of the best on the market in terms of coverage and dewy finish.

BobbiBrown_BBCream_Smashbox_CCCream2: Use foundations that have a dewy rather than matte finish. Look for certain key words in products like luminous and glowing. Some of my favorites are the Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Luminous Liquid Foundation and the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. The Nars Sheer Glow is great for those who want more of a satin finish.

dolce&Gabbana_PerfectLuminousLiquidFoundation_GiorgioArmani_LuminousSilkFoundation3: If your makeup stash is comprised mostly of heavy coverage and matte foundations try adding a drop or two of a liquid Illuminator to your foundation to add a slight sheen. I love using the Mac Strobe Cream on fair skin with pink undertones. For my olive skinned folk the Josie Maran Liquid Illuminator is fab.

mac_StrobeCream_JosieMaran_LiquidIlluminator4: Use a cream blush instead of powder. the cream consistency will blend more efficiently to the skin an almost always leave a fresh dewy finish. I’m totally crushing over the Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in 02, a gorgeous peach, and 05, a soft pinky-rose.

maybelline_Dream_touch_blush 5: If you want to contain your dewiness to specific areas mainly the cheek area try applying a cream highlighter to the cheek bones for that perfect j-lo glow. The Mac Cream Color Base in Diamonds is a perfect golden-pink champagne shade with beautiful light reflecting qualities. I also like the TopShop Glow in Polished for a pearlescent touch. If your not into cream products try a shimmery highlighter like the Mac Mineralize Skin Finish in  Lightscapade or Rio (two of my faves from the line).

Mac_MSF_Lightscapade_RioI’m absolutely obsessed with luminous glowing skin. I love the way it reflects light off the skin for a fresh and natural look that makes you look and feel younger.  What are some of your favorite ways and products for achieving glowing skin, do you use any of the methods mentioned? Oh and I also made a video on the topic, I placed it below in case you missed it!!

Beauty Favorites- January 2014

Hey Guys and Dolls 😀

We are officially in the month of February, and Jan went by uber fast as always.  I have some really great products to share that Ive been obsessed with this past month so welcome to my January Beauty Favorites!!

Janurary_2014_beauty_favoritesFirstly Id like to talk about the Dolce & Gabanna Perfect Luminous Liquid Foundation. Ugh this may have just become my new holy grail foundation. The finish is absolutely gorgeous, a light to medium coverage with a satin/dewy finish that leaves a smooth and even complexion. It doesn’t look cakey and it doesn’t cling to my dry spots either, what a winner!! This stuff is also long wearing. I wore it from 7am till 10pm one of the days I was working at Copenhagen Fashion Week and it was still going strong by the end of the day.

Dolce&Gabanna_Luminous_liquid_foundationI picked up a few items from the Mac Magnetic Nude collection and Ive been addicted to the Extra Dimension Mineralize Skin Finish in Superb. Its a beautiful bronze highlight with pink undertones. I actually love it best worn as an eyeshadow.

mac_extradimension_skinfinish-magneticnude-superbIve also been obsessed with the Laura Mercier Caviar stick in Amethyst, either on its own for a wash of color on the lids or layered underneaths the Mac Extra Dimension Skin Finish in Superb for an ultra glam eye. This stuff is super long wearing and highly pigmented, It easy to blend out but sets quickly so I recommend doing one eye at a time. I haven’t had any problems with creasing either. I’m definitely going to try and get my hands on more of these bad boys, I’m especially interested in the Rose Gold shade.

laura-mercier_caviarstick-amethyst_swatchAlmost everyday the past month or so Ive been rocking the Illamasqua Blusher in Katie. Its the perfect baby doll pink. Its fab for winter, especially on really fair skin tones. It gives a beautiful winters flush. The texture is super soft and finely milled, feels like butter when applied and blended

Illamasqua_blush_swatches_KatieI have a pretty good stash of bronzers and contouring powders so I like to switch it up but I’ve really been gravitating towards the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil. Its perfect for my fair and light skinned folks without being murky or muddy. I really love how pigmented it is although its a lighter shade of bronze a little bit still goes a long way. Plus it smells just as chocolaty as the original (which I love in summer when I got my tan on!!). Its also a perfect eyeshadow shade for the crease.

toofaced_milk_chocolate_soliel_bronzer_swatchSo I ran out of my beloved Tarte Camera Lashes Mascara, and I’m totally bored with the Benefit They’re Real even though its an amazing mascara, so I shopped my stash of unopened mascaras and picked out the Too Faced Lash Injection. At first I didn’t really think it was all that great but after it was open for a week it became less wet. This stuff is amazing. super black, volumeizes  and lengthens. The brush is a bit bigger then what I’m used to but its still super easy and pretty mess free to use. Although it doesn’t claim to be waterproof its never smudged or flaked on me. Yet its so easy to remove with water, it comes off in tubes and leaves behind very little residue.

Ive been keeping it nude with the lips this past month, its pretty low mainataince and a great way to look pulled together. Ive been obessesed with the Mac Creme De Nude Lipstick and Creamsheen Glass in Softly Lit. Paired together its a great combo for nude lips without that total dead look. The gloss also gives the look some dimension with the super fine particles of golden reflex, absolutly gorgeous. I have lip swatches of my favorite mac nude lipsticks here for anyone whose interested in that.

mac_cremedenude_lipstickandgloss-swatchesI have to say all these products have been standouts this month not only for the great qulaity of the products but the packaging as well as amazing longevity. I couldn’t be happier with my makeup routine at the moment. As I mentioned in a previous post I’m sort of on a no buy at the moment and I’m really loving shopping my stash 😀

Oh and by the way I started venturing into the world of beauty videos and finally had the guts to record and post something up on YouTube. You can find me under binkydiamonds or I only have one video so far, My Easy To Do Everyday Highlight and Contour Routine, you can click here to see the video and subscribe if you like :)

My Favorite Setting Powders & Tips For Avoiding Cake Face

Hey Guys,

So today I thought Id talk a little bit about setting powders (in the context of using a liquid base). Setting powders do wonders, they can help set your cream under eye concealer so it doesn’t crease, it can help with oil and shine control, give a radiant look to the skin, and it can help prolong your foundation and make up. The following products are some of my favorite setting powders with rather varying finishes and purposes.

IMG_9514For shine control and longevity look for a transparent powder like the Make Up For Ever HD Powder. This particular translucent powder works on all skin tones, sets the make up for maximum longevity, and does an amazing job at shine control. Not to mention this product looks amazing in pictures and on camera by controlling the white cast that can appear  in photos.

Favorite_longwear_beauty_products_MUFE_HDPowderAnother great powder to get you camera ready is the Urban Decay Razor Sharp Ultra Definition Translucent Setting Powder. The finish on this is a little less matteifying then the MUFE HD powder and has more of a skin like quality. It doesn’t create flash back and makes the skin glow in a natural way. Love this product but definitely don’t care for the packaging. The sponge is super annoying and impracticable, I just take it off when in use and replace when its stored away to avoid a loose powder catastrophe. (side note: I wouldn’t recommend this product to dark skinned guys and gals as it does have a light flesh tone color, which may create an ashy appearance).

UrbanDecay_razorSharpUltraDefintion_finishingPowderThe Ben Nye Translucent Face Powder in Fair is a wonderful setting powder for the under eye area. Its almost translucent but has a slight pale-pink tone to help brighten under the eye area (Its like the Banana Powder for light skinned folks!!). It doesn’t cake up or dry the area and helps my concealer be crease free all day long.

bennye_facepowderIf your not worried about flash back in photos and your going for a more natural look then I highly recommend the Mac Mineralized Skin Finishes. The finish of this product is gorgeous, it makes the skin look so radiant and fresh. It helps my make up last and helps with minimal shine control without completely mattifying the face. Plus the shade range is extensive. I like to use it either to set my foundation and to add a bit more coverage (as its not translucent yet is on the sheer side) or in the summer on its own just to create a fresh and even skin tone. It lasts all day long and never fails.

Mac_MSFAnother similar product is the Mac Select Sheer Loose Powder. It has the same type of light reflecting properties but also does a slightly better job at oil control. There is a small shade range but due to its sheer nature the possibility of finding the right shade is high. The only down side is that its loose and thus prone to making a mess.

mac_selectSheerLossePowderThings To Keep In Mind When Working With Setting Powder:

  1. When applying powder remember to tap the brush to remove excess product. Its better to apply thin layers and easier to correct then applying too much!
  2. Use a light hand and a large fluffy brush to disperse a sheer wash of product (the denser the brush the more product transferred onto the skin!!). This will help avoid and/or minimize the chance of cake face.
  3. When applying powder try to push the brush and product into the skin, rather than swiping, to avoid moving or disturbing the make up underneath. Another option is to use a large fan brush or a powder puff to roll product onto the skin to minimize disturbance.
  4. Use a setting spray, whether for oil control or dewyness, to further set make up and to sheer down powder if you accidentally went over board.
  5. If you lean more towards oily skinned avoid heavy dewy or light reflecting powders whereas my dry skinned girls should go for the opposite.
  6. When choosing setting powder consider what you want it to do as well as your skin type and shade: are you looking to look flawless on camera, control oil, maximize longevity or all of the above?

I love all these powders for different reasons but one thing they have in common is their ability to stand up to their individual claims and their ability to adapt to skin for a flawless long lasting finish. What do you guys think, are any of these your favorites too?
