How To Prevent Under Eye Concealer From Creasing

Concealer is indeed a girls best friend, it covers up any nasty blemishes and sun spots, as well as covering those pesky dark under eye circles. Yet it can be problematic for many people, from a dry and cakey finish to excessive creasing which both enhances the look of fine lines. In my line of work I get girls and guys on the daily asking me how to combat these problems so I decided to offer some great tips so your under eye concealer looks and stays fresh and beautiful all day long.

1. Before application apply a generous amount of eye cream. A hydrated area will diminish creasing.

2. Use a primer to prep the area before application. You can use one made specifically for the are such as the Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer. I also like to use a combination of the Make Up For Ever Primers in Nourish and Smoothing (Check out my full review here for more details).Smashbox_PhotoFinish_Hydrating_UnderEyePrimermakeupforever_step1_skinEqualizer_primers3. Use a creamy rather then a thicker/dryer texture of concealer. The more creamy the texture the less it will emphasize fine lines and provoke creasing. I like to use the Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer but it is a tad on the thick and dry side so I like to mix a bit of the HD Concealer in to make it creamier and thinner in texture.

Make Up For Ever HD Concealer + Full Cover 4. If you have a concealer that’s too thick and dry in texture you can also add a bit of eye cream to thin the product and provide more hydration.

5. Apply a light layer of translucent setting powder to the area after application in order to absorb excess product (which leads to creasing) and to make sure the product stays in place. Although powder foundations do the trick I find a translucent powder to provide more hold and longevity such as the the Make Up For Ever HD Powder or the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder.Laura Mercier Secter Camouflage Powder + Make Up For Ever HD Pressed powder and Pro Finsih As you can see the main culprit of under eye creasing tends to be due to dryness, so keep that under eye area hydrated and perky for a flawless long lasting finish.

Jan/Feb_BeautyFavorites_2015

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizers:

I use both the Nourishing Primer for my unsightly dry patches and the Smoothing Primer to fill in any pores, even out the texture of my skin, while also doing some oil control for my t-zone. I wont rant on about these primers because I’ve done a huge post on them (which you can find here) but all I have to say is these guys have revolutionized the way my makeup applies and lasts.

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder and Mac Powder Puff:

My go to for setting my under eye concealer and the highlighted points on my face has go to be the LMSBP. This powder is so finely milled it never looks cakey, it adds luminosity, and prevents creasing.

The last month I’ve been obsessed with applying this (and all setting powders) with the Mac Powder Puff. It allows for the product to really sink into the skin without disturbing the foundation or the concealer.

LauraMercier_SecretBrighteningPowder_MacPowderPuffBenefit Hoola Bronzer:

This is a staple in my collection that I always come back to. It never fails as the perfect bronzing and contouring product. Its smooth in texture making it easy to blend and lasts for all day wear.

Benefit_HoolaBronzerHourglass Ambient Blush Palette:

This little palette is just so perfect. The colors are amazing and they give the most gorgeous lit from within glow on the cheeks. The formula is soft and finely milled for an easy and blendable application.

Hourglass_AmbiantLighting_Blush_PaletteMac Stone Lipliner, Limecrime Chinchilla Lipstick, Make Up For Ever Lab Shine:

Ive been really obsessed with wearing grey lipstick and been wearing these guys non stop. I start with Mac Stone Lip Liner and add Lime Crime Chinchilla Lipstick on top. To make it more wearable i’ll either top off with Make Up For Ever Lab Shine in S0 for a more nude version or Lab Shine in D2 for a more purple vibe.

Review & Swatches: Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primers

I have to say I’m a firm and strong believer in makeup primers,  they are the start to any great makeup and the key for a long lasting one too. Sure there’s nothing new about primers and color correctors but The New Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primers are some next level S**t!!!!! These bad boys are more then just plain old primers but skin equalizers that smooth and refine the skin. They also enhance your final make up for a seamless and long lasting wear.

MakeUpForEver_Step1_SkinEqualizerPrimersThere are 11 different primers in the range. Here’s a little break down of each one:

MATTIFYING PRIMER: Mattefies and oil controls while reducing pore size for a long lasting makeup.

SMOOTHING PRIMER: Fills in and blurs imperfections. Its great for minimizing the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles for a flawless and resurfaced texture. Enhances longevity of makeup wear too.

HYDRATING PRIMER: Formulated with specific H₂O Complex, it provides moisture which transforms dehydrated skin into a supple, healthy, plump surface for a flawless makeup all day long.

NOURISHING PRIMER: Instantly replenishes dry and dehydrated skin. Made with Vegetal Complex that hydrates and revives skin while antioxidants protect from the elements. It also helps to restores elasticity and ensures a more uniform texture for a flawless makeup all day long.

Review & Swatches:

I was lucky enough to get gifted the Nourishing and Hydrating Primer and decided to also invest in the Redness Corrector and the Smoothing Primer. I thought I’d put them to the test and give you guys a little review of the ones I’ve tried.

makeupforever_step1_equalizer_swatches(from left to right: Nourishing Primer, Hydrating Primer, Smoothing Primer, Redness Correcting Primer)

Nourishing Primer: The texture of this primer is rather like a moisturizer. Yet it feels more light weight and sinks into the skin quickly. I noticed that the fine lines around my eyes were less apparent when using this. It definitely nourished the areas where I have dry patches in between my eyebrows and on my chin where I suffer from a little eczema. The result was a flawless foundation application and wear.

Hydrating Primer: The texture of this one is lighter than the Nourishing Primer but still delivers on the hydrating properties. Its very smooth and soft and left my skin feeling supple. It doesn’t feel greasy in the slightest and is rather light weight. I really like to wear this one my normal/dry days but I especially like to mix it in with some of the more drying foundation formulas for a more lit from within finish.

Smoothing Primer: I’m really in love with this. Its smoothed out every fine line and pore on my face. Its reminds me a bit of the Benefit Porefessional but I find it more smoothing and less drying. My foundation has never looked so amazing and it really is tripling the wear of it too.

Redness Corrector: The pigment level is so strong, I need the tiniest bit on my bare flushed cheeks and bye bye redness.

The Verdict:

Recently I’ve been experimenting with a little Primer Cocktail-ing haha. I begin with the Nourishing Primer if my dry patches are flaring up otherwise the Hydrating Primer on my good days. I then use the Redness Corrector on my cheeks and chin and then I top it all off with the Smoothing Primer for that ultimately smooth texture. My makeup not only lasts 3 times longer but it looks beautiful and radiant all day long without needing touch-ups!! These guys deserve a 5/5 for sure!!!

Have any of your tried the new primers, what are your thoughts?
